The older gentleman in the store today

He regaled us with stories of how Oakland has changed. He's lived across from the Oakland Greyhound station since the late 30's, just after his stint with the Navy ended. Particularly interesting was his story about being pulled over for driving the wrong way down a one way street. To the cop who asked him why he didn't see the sign, the gentleman replied,

"When I left, everything was the same."

We've been repeating it all day.
